Most of the time, the Beagle is a lovable and gentle dog. Beagles are known to love company and are not bothered by the presence of other dogs. The Beagle is a very intelligent dog, but also very playful making it a popular family pet.
However, its character makes it a particularly difficult dog to train. Beagles can be trained using rewards, but they are easily distracted by their environment and especially by smells. The beagle is not recommended as a watchdog, even though they are known to bark when something unusual happens. Take care around very young children because the beagle, with its playful nature, can be a little rough.
