On 16 October 2023, it was reported that reality TV star Katie Price sold two of her dogs after having them for less than a year. It is believed that Price, who is facing financial difficulties, made £4,000 selling the dogs.
While having to give away your dog is not uncommon as one’s circumstances can change, the sale of her dogs follows a long list of worrying incidents concerning Katie Price’s pets. Those incidents have been going on for many years and have resulted in a campaign aiming to stop Price from owning pets.
Katie Price sells her dogs for £4,000
The Sun reported that Katie Price put her dogs up for sale in the week of 9 October, listing the dogs for £2,000 each.
The dogs, named Captain and Batman, were ‘rehomed’ very quickly. It is believed that Price only got the dogs less than a year ago. An anonymous source explained to The Sun the reasoning behind Katie Price’s decision:
(...) at this point Katie has too many dogs. She loves getting them when they’re puppies but goes off them when they grow up.
People want Katie Price away from animals
Katie Price selling her pets is not the first decision regarding her animals that has made people furious. Indeed, since 2020, a petition on Change.org has been up. Its name: Ban Katie price from buying any more animals. So far, in October 2023, the petition has collected over 30,000 signatures.
But why does Katie Price have a petition going against her? From her social media presence one would believe that Katie is a big pet lover but while she might love them, it appears that she neglects them.
The petition states:
In the last 5 years more animals have died from lack of care. Horses. dogs.cats lizards hedgehogs. This isn't a single family tragedy. It's a common thing in Katie price home.
2 dogs have been ran over. Puppies were found dead drowning in a neglected swimming pool. A horse was run over on a motorway. Animals just go missing in her home never to been seen again.
Though the statements from the creator of the petition cannot all be confirmed, The Sun and Katie Price herself have confirmed some of them.
The Sun writes that in early 2023 ‘her protection dog Blade was run over.’ According to Katie Price, Blade’s death is being investigated by the police as she believes that this was an attack on her. That being said, the dog was hit by a car on the A24 motorway which is not far from Price’s home. How did the dog get there?
Blade was not the first of Katie’s dog to be run over on the A24. Indeed, it is reported that 3 of her dogs have died on that road since 2020. The Sun also reports that her French Bulldog ‘suffocated after being squashed underneath a chair’ and that she had to give away another dog after he wasn’t trained and attacked other animals.
In April 2023, following the death of one of her pets, a source told The Sun:
It’s shocking to see the conditions those poor dogs are living in…
After all that’s happened with Katie’s pets in the past you’d have thought she would be going above and beyond for her dogs, but that doesn’t seem to be the case
It was also reported that one of Katie Price’s horses died after he escaped from a field.
