In a twist of events, Amanda Abbington is understood to be asking for Strictly’s backstage footage in a bid to review it after her PTSD diagnosis.
Strictly’s Amanda Abbington demands backstage footage to review after Giovanni feud
According to The Sun, the Sherlock actress is taking legal advice and is keen on reviewing the rehearsal footage after her departure from the show. Amanda believes that reviewing the footage will help her claims about Giovanni’s alleged behaviour towards her.
Since quitting the show in October due to medical reasons, Amanda has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This comes after ‘perfectionist’ Giovanni’s behaviour led her to quit the show. An unknown on-set source confirmed:
The BBC have received a request for the footage they hold of Amanda and Giovanni. It is known as a data subject access request.
There is a feeling that the recordings will lift the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes on Strictly.
Things in rehearsals can become very tense. Giovanni is a perfectionist and he can be incredibly full-on.
One of Amanda’s friends claimed that the 51-year-old was ‘left broken and saddened by the whole experience’ and needed therapy to recover. The said:
She has needed therapy and was left in shock by the behaviour she was exposed to. It has taken her months to get over what she went through.
It was a real shock as she was initially so excited to sign up to the show to learn to dance, but instead, she experienced an ordeal.
Everyone else was having a fabulous time, but she was really stressed by having to spend eight hours a day with Giovanni. She spent a lot of time crying and couldn’t sleep or eat properly.
Amanda was also snubbed from the show’s finale despite being one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball trophy at one point.
Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice and previous feuds
Giovanni Pernice may have won the show in 2021 alongside EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, but he has had many fall-outs with his previous partners. In 2016, former Love Island host Laura Whitmore admitted she ‘cried every day’ and felt ‘uncomfortable’ while training with him.
In 2020, it is understood that Giovanni had a tough time getting well along with Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh. And in 2022, he was reported to have ‘feuded’ with TV and radio presenter Richie Anderson.
