Amy Dowden has been a professional dancer on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancingsince 2017. Dowden had been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023 and underwent surgery in early June.

The 32-year-old dancer has been sharing parts of her experience on Instagram, letting her fans know that she had been diagnosed with cancer and that her surgery had gone well. In her latest update, she talks about her reconstructive surgery.
Amy seems to be in high spirits as she jokes with Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies. Indeed the dancer is able to look on the bright side of things and hasn’t lost her sense of humour during this difficult time.
Amy Dowden had reconstructive surgery
As reported by Express, Amy Dowden recently had reconstructive surgery after having gone through a mastectomy to treat breast cancer. The dancer has been sharing updates via her Instagram stories.
As reported by The Independent, Dowden ‘had no choice’ but to undergo a full mastectomy as she had ‘more than one tumour’. For those that may not know, a full mastectomy is when the surgeons remove the entire breast tissue.
Since she had a full mastectomy, Dowden decided to get reconstructive surgery, which also seems to have been a success.

Amy Dowden has a ‘new boob’
In her Instagram stories on June 26, Amy shares the fact she had reconstructive surgery with Dragon’s Den star, Sara Davies, who also appeared on Strictly in 2021.
In her video, she shows off her ‘new boob’ to her friend, who helped give Amy an injection as part of her recovery.
She jokingly asked her close friend what she thought of her ‘new boob’:
I got the new boob! What did you think?
Sara replied that she had a ‘Nice boob’ and then jokingly told Amy that she ‘should get the other one done’.
I just said that is one good-looking boob and they've done a marvellous job!

Amy added that the reconstruction was so good that you almost couldn’t tell it was done via surgery except for the nipple:
Other than the nipple, you wouldn't really know, would you?
