As we all know, Will Smith has apologized twice, but Chris Rock seems to be in no mood to either forgive or let go of the 'slapgate' controversy.
On Sunday (August 28), during a comedy set at the Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix, Chris Rock revealed to the audience that he was offeredby the Academy to host Oscars 2023but he refused as he felt that would mean 'going back to the crime scene', as reported by Vanity Fair.
All about Slapgate
For the unversed, Will Smith smacked Chris Rock after he had joked about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith's Apelecia-induced baldness on Oscars 2022 night and asked the presenter to 'keep' his wife's 'name out your f*cking mouth'. Smith, soon after the incident made global headlines and was watched by millions live on TV, has since been banned from attending the Oscars or any other Academy-related event for the next 10 years because of his 'unacceptable' behavior. He won the Best Actor award just minutes after the incident for his role in King Richard.
'Tasteless' comparisons
According to a report by Arizona Republic, Chris Rock compared going to the Oscars as 'returning to the crime scene', and the hosting offer to asking the late Nicole Brown Simpson 'to go back to the restaurant' where her mother had left a pair of glasses the night of her death, as per the publication.
For those of you who aren't aware, this was a direct reference to the infamous 1995 double-murder case involving former star athlete O.J. Simpson.
Ever since that joke was made by Rock, social media has been angrywith him for drawing such ' 'tasteless' comparisons, according to TMZ. Chris Rock is yet to comment on it.
