But that wasn’t the only reason Horner was being talked about, just before the alleged texts were leaked, the F1 driver was cleared of allegations made by a female colleague, who had raised concerns about ‘inappropriate and controlling behaviour' from Horner.
Christian Horner has been married to Spice Girls member, Geri Halliwell since 2015. As Horner’s team deals with all the accusations, let’s have a look at Christian and Geri’s relationship.
Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell first met in 2009
As reported by People, the Spice Girls singer and F1 driver first met in 2009 at the Monaco Grand Prix. Speaking about their first encounter, Christian revealed that Geri was a guest of Bernie Ecclestone, the former CEO of the Formula One Group.
She was at the Grand Prix with Ecclestone and Ron Dennis, the McLaren boss. As per People, Christian said their first meeting was as sweet as he had hoped:
She gave Ron a kiss on the cheek, and she gave Eddie a kiss on the cheek. So I thought, 'OK, I'm on for a kiss on the cheek here!' And I went to give her one and she shoved her hand out at me!
However, the couple’s relationship didn’t begin until 2014. Geri and Christian attended their first red carpet as a couple in July 2014 at a racing charity event. Despite the red carpet being their first event as an official couple, the two were spotted at Poppy Delevingne and James Cook’s wedding reception at Kensington Palace Gardens earlier the same year.
Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell married in 2015
Just a few months after their first event as an official couple, Christian Horner and Geri Halliwell announced their engagement. The couple decided to announce their engagement in an advertisement in The Times in November 2014.
The ad read, as per The Huffington Post:
The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A Parkinson.
Geri and Christian tied the knot in a high-profile wedding on May 15, 2015, in Bedfordshire, England. The couple’s guest list included Sir Jackie Stewart, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French and former F1 driver David Coulthard.
On January 21, 2017, Geri and Christian welcomed their first child as a couple, Montague George Hector Horner. Both Geri and Christian have children from previous relationships, making them a blended family. Geri had a daughter, Bluebell Madonna from her prior relationship with screenwriter Sacha Gervasi.
Speaking to The Telegraph in March 2023, Horner opened up about life as a blended family and revealed that Geri and his daughter, Olivia have a good relationship. He added that he has a ‘great relationship’ his ex, Beverly Allen.
I have a great relationship with Beverley and Beverley gets on with Geri, and Geri is great with Olivia and Olivia has a lovely relationship with Monty. It's totally harmonious.
