It has been reported that the Corrie star is faced with a £250,000 debt after his company collapsed at the end of 2023. However, the actor may not have enough to pay off his debt comfortably and may need to sell his home. Here’s everything we know.
Simon Gregson is in debt
As mentioned above, The Sun has reported that Coronation Street star Simon Gregson is facing major financial issues. He reportedly owes £250,000 after his company went bust.
The actor allegedly took out the loan from his own production firm, Simon Gregson Productions Ltd. In November 2023, Simon’s company went under and he called in liquidators. Moreover, according to Mirror, Gregson’s company also owes £165,000 to HMRC and Coutts bank for a Covid bounceback loan.
It is believed that the actor earns £150,000 a year thanks to his career on Coronation Street. The father-of-three also took part in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here in 2021, reportedly earning him £250k.
Simon Gregson revealed on Good Morning Britain that he went on the popular show for the money and it was ‘enough to get him out of trouble’. As per The Sun, Simon also has two side hustles on top of his acting career.
Indeed, he is a tour guide for the Corrie set. He is paid to show fans around the cobbled Weatherfield set. He is also reportedly writing a children’s book.
Simon Gregson may be forced to sell his home
According to documents obtained by Mirror, Simon Gregson and his wife Emma have to repay £1,500 per month and have three years to pay off the debt. The document allegedly states that the couple have agreed to sell their home if they cannot repay the debt.
The Director had an overdrawn loan account of £252,824. The analysis also revealed that this money was removed from the company’s bank account and paid into Mr Gregson’s joint bank account with his estranged wife.
Therefore, any claim would be addressed to both individuals.
The document claims that the couple, who have been married for 14 years and have three sons, are separated, but a source insisted the two were happily married. Emma runs Morley Tea Rooms in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Moreover, as reported by Mirror, Simon sold some of his office equipment last year to help pay off his debt. He reportedly offered the furniture plus £6,000 in cash. According to The Sun, Simon Gregson has repaid £9,000 so far.
