Dyer quit EastEnders in order to accept an offer to be a series on Sky called Mr Bigstuff. The TV star has also made several guest appearances on podcasts, including one where he talked about a health scare.
More recently, the 46-year-old opened up about his relationship with his wife, Joanne Mas, with whom he has been with since they were 13 years old.
About his relationship with wife Joanne Mas
Danny Dyer, who has a fortune of £4 million, and Joanne Mas met at school when they were 13 years old. Dyer previously revealed that he thought Joanne was joking when she first asked him out, as he was the ‘trampy kid’ and she was the ‘coolest kid’, as per The Independent.
Their first date was at a Pizza Hut and since then, the two have been together. As per The Sun, Mas was the main provider as a financial adviser, while Dyer was trying to make it as an actor.
Unlike tradition, Joanne proposed to Danny in 2015 and a year later, in September 2016, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Hampshire. Danny and Joanne have welcomed three children into this world, Dani, who also has a TV career after winning Love Island in 2018, a second daughter, Sunnie and a son, Artie.
Their family expanded, as Dani welcomed a son in 2021 with Sammy Kimmence. Then in 2022, Dani gave birth to twin daughters, with West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen.
As with any relationship, Dyer and Mas have had ups and downs, and Dyer recently admitted that he hasn’t always been the best husband.
Danny Dyer opens up about struggle with fame during his relationship
As reported by The Independent, Danny Dyer was a guest on the How to Fail podcast, hosted by Elizabeth Day. During the episode, the Eastenders star revealed that his wife has stood by him ‘through a lot of s**t’.
He explained that as they have been together since they were 13, they grew up together ‘at the same time, at the same rate’, then fame came along, which Mas ‘never wanted' but stuck by him anyway.
He told Day:
You throw fame in the mix, and what happened with me, which she never wanted, and she came along for this ride with me, both from the same council estate.
He goes on to reveal that fame really messed him up and he ‘didn’t quite know what to do with it’ and Joanne was ‘very patient’ with him as she put up with ‘a lot of s**t’.
Dyer admits that he was ‘a pr*ck for many years’ and his wife remained by his side, he explains:
It’s hard to stay in a relationship for that long with the press attention and with me being a pr**k for many years, because I was, I hold my hands up, I lost the plot for many years.
I didn’t quite know who I was and I suppose she had to suffer all that on a national level. I love her with all my heart. You know, she challenges me every day.
She’s kept me very grounded. I’ll tell you that now.
