On May 2, 2025, Beckham will celebrate his 50th birthday, which is considered a milestone event for many. To mark the upcoming occasion, the former footballer sat down for an interview and a photoshoot with Men’s Health and discussed his plans and potential challenges.
David Beckham soon to have an ‘empty nest’
As many know, David Beckham is a family man. He and his wife, Victoria have been married for over 20 years and have welcomed four children: Brooklyn, 25, who married Nicola Peltz in 2022; Romeo, 22; Cruz, 20; and Harper, 13.
Beckham regularly shares photos of his children on social media and is often spotted taking his daughter on fun outings. During the interview with Men's Health, he opened up about something he has been struggling with in regards to his children.
One struggle every parent has to deal with is watching their children grow and become their own people, eventually leaving home. The dad-of-four explained to Men’s Health that he and Victoria have gone from having four children at home to just one, and it’s ‘painful’.
We’re not quite there yet, but it’s actually painful. We’ve gone from having four in the house to one.
David reveals that surprisingly, he misses his sons’ messy rooms despite being a ‘self-confessed neat freak’.
What I would give to have that back and be able to walk in, moaning to them about it!
Nonetheless, Beckham seems to have a good relationship with his sons and admits they ‘always’ ask him out to the pub if they are going with friends.
David Beckham spills rare details on his family
In the interview, David Beckham also talks about life behind closed doors with his family. He explained that all the Beckhams have ‘the competitive spirit’. The former footballer revealed that due to his training regimen when he was in his prime, he didn’t have time for other passions or hobbies.
As a result, he wanted his children to be able to do what he couldn’t. It took Beckham a few ‘painful days’ to learn how to ski and snowboard, and it has since become his ‘favourite holiday’. However, that brought out his competitiveness.
I try to get competitive with the boys, but when you start getting older you notice they’re getting quicker and more agile. When they got to 18 years old, I really noticed they were flying down the mountain. I tried to keep up with them, but they’re quite good with letting me keep up.
David goes on to talk about his wife, Victoria, explaining that as they’ve gotten older, she prefers not to ski as much. Despite taking a step back on skiing holidays, the former Spice Girls singer is still very active.
Indeed, after a lot of convincing from her husband, Victoria now works out ‘five days a week, sometimes six’ alongside David.
I’ve been trying to get Victoria to work out with Bob for years and she finally agreed. We now do five days a week, sometimes six, together. I love training with Victoria. We give each other plenty of grief.
