The contestants have been signed up by their adult children who do not know they will also play a part in the show. Indeed, the children will be working as ‘experts’ and help their parents navigate the programme.
When the press release announcing the show was published, host Davina McCall shared her excitement. However, in a recent interview she revealed that she wouldn’t take part in the show herself.
Davina McCall ‘bursting’ with excitement
My mum, Your Dad was created by daughter-father duo Haley and Greg Daniels. The latter is known for being behind hits like Parks and Recs. My mum, Your Dad already has versions in other countries like the US or France. This show is different because for once, love isn’t just for young people. Its contestants are all middle-aged and are ready to start a new chapter of their lives.
This is what Davina McCall was so excited about. On X, she shared a clip in which she explains that this show means a lot to her. She said:
I wrote to someone at ITV saying ‘I think you should do a midlife Love Island. What’s lovely is watching a group of mid-lifers come together all invested in trying to find a long-term partner.
This teaser - made on X - follows the excited statement she released in June 2023 for the show’s announcement.
I’ve been bursting to tell!!! I’m so so excited to host My Mum, Your Dad - this show will have you so invested in the people in it. Fascinating, vibrant individuals who have lived incredible lives already, with a million life lessons under their belts, as they search for their perfect life partner. But also with the juiciest twist of any show I’ve ever worked on.
When talking to Radio Times,Davina McCall expressed that hosting this show is ‘a dream come true’ as she finally sees people like her, middle-aged.
