And now, former White House Press Secretary and Melania Trump’s former press secretary and Chief of Staff, Stephanie Grisham, has changed her Republican ways for Democratic ones. Grisham made an appearance on day two of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to endorse Kamala Harris. During her speech, Grisham delivered a scathing critique of her former boss.
Trump’s former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham supports Harris over him
Stephanie Grisham served as White House Press Secretary for under a year and later assumed the role of Chief of Staff for Melania Trump — who may not be a full-time First Lady again. She worked for the Trump administration for five years and was the first White House Press Secretary to hold no press conferences.
Grisham resigned from her position following the storming of the United States Capitol. Since then, she has been a vocal critic of Trump, reports MailOnline. At the DNC, she told the crowd:
I saw him when the cameras were off. Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters — calls them “basement dwellers.”
When people were dying in the ICU, [Trump] was mad that cameras weren't watching him. He has no empathy. No morals. No fidelity to the truth.
Addressing her decision to resign, she said in her convention speech:
On January 6, I asked Melania if we could at least tweet that while peaceful protest is the right of every American, there’s no place for lawlessness and violence. She replied with one word: “No.”
I became the first senior staffer to resign that day. I couldn’t be part of the insanity any longer.
Grisham insisted that she wasn’t only a ‘Trump supporter’ but a ‘true believer’ and treated Trump’s family like her own. She spent Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas at Mar-a-Lago but now is happy to endorse Harris after seeing ‘the threat’ that Trump poses to the nation. She told NBC News:
I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention. But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out.
She said at the convention:
He used to tell me, “It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie. Say it enough, and people will believe you.” But it does matter what you say–and what you don’t say.
Defending why she never held a press conference during her tenure, she said she didn’t ‘want to stand at that podium and lie,’ unlike Trump.
All the former Republicans who now support Harris
Unfortunately for Trump, Grisham isn’t the only former Republican to change her ways and denounce his extremist views. Other Republicans are expected to share a similar message throughout the convention, including former Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.
According to First Post, conservative commentator Rich Logis told the DNC attendees that he made a ‘grave mistake’ by voting for Trump in the past. John Giles, Mayor of Mesa, Arizona, said last month that the Republican Party has lost its way under Trump, which is why he now supports Harris.
Olivia Troye, a former White House national security official, said ‘a second Trump term will bring more turmoil’ to the United States.
