Amid these major events, a book was released by his nephew that made some scathing claims about Trump. Here's what has been alleged.
Shocking statement
During the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump was supported by several members of his family, from his grandchildren to even his wife Melania, who has been keeping a low-key profile this election campaign.
However, Trump does have bad blood with a few other members of his family, namely his niece and nephew, Mary and Fred C. Trump III. The siblings are the children of Trump's older brother Fred Jr., who is now deceased. Unlike his sister, who often speaks up about her uncle and has also released a memoir about their family, Fred has kept out of the spotlight, until recently.
On 30 July, his own memoir was released, called All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way. In it, he talks about what it was like to grow up as a Trump, sheds light on the family dynamics, and shares never-heard-before stories—one of which makes Donald Trump look very bad.
Dependent on Donald Trump
He said in his memoir that in 2020, he called Trump to ask for money. Fred III used to receive money from his uncle after he and his sister were removed from their father's will. The request had to do with the rising care costs of his son William, who was diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Fred has previously said that at the time, Trump was the only one who was contributing to William's care.
However, when he made the request this time, the business mogul's reply stunned him. He reportedly said:
I don't know. He doesn't recognize you. Maybe you should just let him die and move to Florida.
In the book Fred III writes, as per an excerpt published byThe Guardian:
Wait! What did he just say? That my son doesn’t recognise me? That I should just let him die? Did he really just say that? That I should let my son die … so I could move down to Florida? Really?
Moreover, Fred III says that that was not the first time as he once heard his uncle make similar remarks in the Oval Office when talking to doctors and advocates about disabled rights.
And while he has preferred to keep his distance from saying anything about Donald Trump in the past, his stance has now changed given the political climate. As stated on Simon & Schuster:
Now as a divided nation gears up for the 2024 presidential election, Fred has decided this is the moment to share a very different family story. A story that could shape the decision of a nation.
