Former President Donald Trump has long prided himself on filling arenas and stadiums for his political rallies. He often boasts about the enthusiasm of his supporters and claims that his events are always packed. It was during one of these ‘full’ rallies that Trump was shot at in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Recently, at a rally in Reading, Pennsylvania, Trump proudly announced:
We do a lot of these beautiful rallies, and it’s so great. We never have an empty seat, never have, look at it.
Despite this proclamation, reports from various sources have revealed a different story, with empty seats becoming more noticeable during his rallies. Videos and photos of empty seats have started to circulate on social media, bringing a new level of scrutiny to his campaign.
Empty seats humiliate Donald Trump online
Trump’s claim that his rallies are always packed began to unravel in real-time as attendees and observers shared images and footage of empty seats at the Reading rally on social media. Although the areas near the stage were filled with his MAGA supporters, the sections farther back remained visibly sparse.
An Associated Press photo confirmed this, showing numerous empty seats towards the rear of the venue, reports HuffPost. NewsNation's Libbey Dean captured additional footage, which was quickly posted online, highlighting the empty sections that Trump seemed to overlook.
Past incidents of dwindling rally numbers
According to OK! Magazine, this was not the first time Trump faced scrutiny over his claims over having massive crowds at his rallies.
Reportedly, the empty seats have become increasingly common for Trump rallies. Observers have noticed many people leaving early while he’s giving a speech. At a rally in Saginaw, Michigan, held just days before the Reading event, videos emerged showing only half of the venue filled, despite Trump’s repeated claims that his rallies are always full.
On October 3, a Kamala Harris stan account on X posted a video of empty seats at a Trump rally and wrote:
Donald Trump talks about his crowd sizes as if he’s filling every seat in the arena. In reality, his rallies are empty and completely lack energy. Retweet to make sure all Americans know how washed up Trump really is.
Social media users were quick to mock the apparent discrepancy. One commented:
Donald Trump talks about his crowd sizes as if he’s filling every seat in the arena. In reality, his rallies are empty and completely lack energy.
Another two remarked:
OMG!!! Look at all of the empty seats at Trump’s rally in Reading, Pennsylvania! This is so humiliating for the Trump campaign. Nobody shows up to his rallies anymore!
His rallies are getting smaller and smaller the closer we get to November. Hopefully a good sign of things to come.
Meanwhile, during his debate with Kamala Harris on September 10, the Vice President said that people were ‘leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.’ Trump defensively replied to this and claimed his rallies are the ‘biggest’ and the ‘most incredible rallies in the history of politics,’ reports Newsweek.
