Big plans for Donald Trump's birthday
The president's birthday falls on the 250th anniversary of the US army. To mark this special day, Donald Trump has come up with something quite extraordinary: a military parade through Washington, the capital of the United States.
Donald Trump, who recently hinted at wanting to run for a third term, had already wanted to organise such a military parade during his first term of office from 2017 to 2021. This was modelled on a military display in France to mark Bastille Day, the French bank holiday, which Donald Trump attended in 2017. However, Trump's plans at the time were cancelled due to estimated costs of $92 million.
Criticised for original parade plans
As per Reuters DC Mayor Muriel Bowser revealed that the Trump administration had contacted the city about holding a parade on the day of his birthday that would run from the Pentagon and into Washington DC.
However, it seems that the idea is still in the planning stages as the White House confirmed in a statement that 'no military parade has been scheduled'.
Nevertheless, the whole thing is already causing controversy—as it did the first time around. The parade during Trump's first term was supposed to include historic military aircrafts, fighter jets, and even tanks. Speaking about the impact that a parade of this magnitude would have on the roads of the city Bowser said:
If military tanks were used, they should be accompanied with many millions of dollars to repair the roads.
