While this sad chapter has been widely commented on, another far more surprising anecdote has caught the attention of many readers. In writing his memoirs, Prince Harry was apparently determined to reveal the whole truth about every single aspect of his life, even the most intimate passages.
Before talking about the chilblains on his penis during a trip to the North Pole (yes, you read that right), he revealed how and with whom he reportedly lost his virginity aged 16. According to his writing, it was with an older woman 'in a field just behind a pub'. It's not a fairytale scenario, and no doubt lacked glamour for some. More than a year after the publication of Spare, the British actress reacted to set the record straight. On 3 April 2024, she explained on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen:
That was ludicrous! He said, 'She was English. She was older than me. It was in Gloucestershire.' And they were like, 'Ah, it's Elizabeth.'
She also added:
It was absurd. It was ridiculous. It was like saying, 'He's great-looking. He's American.' Oh, it's Andy Cohen.
To put the rumour to rest once and for all, Hugh Grant's ex clarified that she had never actually met Prince Harry.
One should note that this affaire with this 'older woman' is over, and has been for a long time, especially since the alleged 'older woman' has already spoken out when the book came out. The woman, Sasha Walpole, told the The Sun:
I kept it a secret for more than 21 years, because it came from a good place. It was just a nice, funny thing that happened when we were teenagers after a night of shots. It was literally just something that happened. And I would never have talked about it if the book hadn’t been published.
She chose to make her identity public by herself to take ownership of her own story. She explains:
I thought it might blow over but then I gradually started hearing stories. So I had to take a degree of control and tell my story, in my words, with all the correct context and detail. There was talk that the woman was some kind of supermodel — I am not a supermodel, we were just friends.
