In fact, Elton John was forced to postpone one of his tours in 2021 after sustaining an injury after a severe fall, causing him to need surgery. In February 2024, Elton John attended Derek Draper’s funeral. At the sad event, he was seen with a walking stick and a medical boot.
A month later, his husband, David Furnish, revealed the iconic singer will soon be undergoing knee surgery, again. Here’s everything we know so far.
Elton John to undergo knee surgery
As reported by Express, Elton John’s husband, David Furnish revealed that he will be undergoing a second knee surgery ‘in a couple of weeks’ after fans were concerned about the singer’s heath in February after seeing him with a walking stick.
David also added that Elton John had his first knee replacement in January, meaning, that by the summer, he will have ‘two brand new spanking knees.’ In classic Elton John style, the singer is in good spirits and his husband has joked that he won’t be able to keep Elton off the dance floor.
As per The Sun, David said:
He’s doing amazing. He’s having another knee done in a couple of weeks and by the time the summer rolls around, he’ll have two brand new spanking knees.
Elton John previously had hip surgery
This won’t be Elton John’s first bout of surgery. Indeed, in 2021, the singer was forced to postpone his Yellow Brick Road Tour after falling ‘awkwardly on a hard surface’ which caused him to have severe pain in his hip.
At the time, Elton joked that he had to ‘postpone limbo dancing for a little while’ and eventually had surgery on his hip.
In a statement at the time, Elton explained:
I'm going to have my hip operated on early in October and then I shall be recuperating and doing my physiotherapy and hopefully I'll be all right in a couple of months. So fingers crossed.
Elton John won’t be touring anymore
As Elton John has previously announced, he will no longer be touring, the 77-year-old performed at Glastonbury in 2023 and his husband believes he won’t ‘try to top Glastonbury’. However, David did add that Elton won't ‘stop performing completely’, instead he will do ‘little shows’ as he wants to spend more time with his family.
I think he’s going to take advantage of the opportunity to do little shows now and again but he’s not going to tour anymore. He’s done that for 50 years and he’s enjoying being at home with his family.
Moreover, as reported by The Sun, Elton John and his husband are launching two stage musicals in 2024, which could include some of Eton’s biggest hits, such as Your Song, Candle In The Wind and Tiny Dancer.
David told The Sun:
We are launching two stage musicals this year, a documentary on Disney+, opening a photo exhibition at the V&A in May, so it’s still very busy.
