Tyler was married to Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004 and appeared in 1153 episodes of General hospital from 1996 to 2016. He earned 4 daytime Emmy nominations for his work on the series and won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
General Hospital actor Tyler Christopher dies at the age of 50
According to MailOnline, the cause of Tyler’s death is predicted to be a cardiac arrest. His friend Maurice Benard was the first to break the news on Instagram yesterday. Paying a tribute to his friend, Maurice wrote:
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.
Tyler struggled with bipolar depression and alcoholism that led to various public intoxication arrests and problems. He was plagued with legal problems involving alcohol in recent years - he was arrested six months ago after passing out drunk at an LA airport.
In 2019, he spent his 47th birthday behind the bars after getting arrested for public intoxication in his hometown of Martinsville, Indiana. Maurice added:
Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and father.
Meanwhile, Christopher’s representative Chi Muoi Lo also confirmed the actor's death in a statement to CNN. He said:
This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.
Tyler’s alcoholism and bipolar depression has been a cause of his tragic life many times, confirmed MailOnline. In March of 2022, Tyler sat with Maurice for his podcast and spoke openly about his mental health. He agreed that drinking was leading him down a ‘deadly path’ and at ‘some point’ he will not be able to survive it.
Tyler also revealed that he flatlined three times after alcohol-related incidents. He said:
Nobody knows that. 'Three times I have flatlined, and they brought me back. Twice from poisoning, once from withdrawal.
