[We are] disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan’s comments on not believing Meghan’s experiences about suicidal thoughts. It’s vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy.
Piers Morgan refuses to apologise
According to an ITV source who spoke to The Sun, Piers ‘was asked to make an apology but refused. He says he is entitled to his opinion and is always going to stand by it. When he refused to apologise, there was a stand-off. And ultimately it ended with him telling producers he would not host the show anymore.’
Prior to leaving the show, Piers had stormed off set on Tuesday morning after weather presenter Alex Beresford challenged his constant trashing of Meghan Markle. Alex said:
I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off. She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her.
Who is Piers Morgan’s replacement on Good Morning Britain?
Due to the sudden nature of Piers’ exit, it is not yet clear who will take over as his Good Morning Britain replacement. Wednesday morning’s episode was fronted by Ranvir Singh alongside Piers’ regular presenting partner Susanna Reid, who described Piers as ‘outspoken’ and ‘disruptive.’
