What’s The Invitation about?

The plot-line follows Natalie Emmanuel who plays Evie, a young woman who reconnects with previously estranged cousin via a DNA test she took. Things take a dark turn when she finds herself invited into a posh estate in the English countryside of her wealthy long lost relatives and uncovers some dark secrets.

A vampire horror story with a twist

Emmanuel's Evie finds herself in deep trouble once she arrives at the creepy mansion. Bit by bit, she realizes there's more beyond the surface and that her new family is actually a part of generational bloodline of vampires. Much to Evie's surprise, she basically set up to be the new bride that oversees a family of vampires (like Bride-zilla but with fangs andvampires).

Beware of the family trap

Emmanuel's character is lured into the wealthy trappings of the vampire den because she enters their property under the guise that she's actually related to everyone. There's a palpable sense of discomfort underlining the entire movie as she sees the excess wealth of her vampire "family" on display. Turns out, it's all one big trick to get Thomas Doherty(Gossip Girl) who plays Walter to marry Emmanuel and continue the nightmare vampire legacy.

Skip or Play?

The vampire thriller makes social commentary on many different themes, exploring everything from excessive wealth, class conflicts, family feuds, a thirst for immortality and even forbidden love. Natalie Emmanuel said it best in a conversation about the film with The Hollywood Reporter:

What’s also very apparent from the trailer and then watching the film is that there’s so much more than what’s in the trailer. There’s so much more to see, discover and enjoy.

So, will be accepting The Invitation? You'll just have to go and test it out yourself.

The Invitation comes out in theatres August 26, 2022. Make sure to check out the trailer here:
