Gary Lineker's podcast empire earns him a fortune
On top of his successful hosting career on the BBC, Gary Lineker also founded Goalhangers Podcast in 2019, alongside former ITV controller Tony Pastor and former BBC executive Jack Davenport. The company grew rapidly, and quickly became one of the world's leading podcast producers. The company produces several famous podcasts such as The Rest is Football, The Rest is Politics, and The Rest is History. Each show gathers millions of listeners worldwide, earning him a consequential fortune. Gary Lineker himself hosts one of the podcasts, The Rest is Football, alongside BBC colleagues Micah Richards and Alan Shearer.
According to the production company's filings at the Companies House, Goalhangers Podcast earned £590,000 in 2023. That sum saw a huge rise last year, with earnings going up to £2.03 million in 2024. The company's 13 podcasts have amassed more than 400 million downloads and over 85 million views on YouTube in the past year alone. The company reported seven employees in 2023, and sixteen the next year. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told the Times:
These figures are spectacular. Gary Lineker's eye for a smart business opportunity is as keen as when he was playing football for England and scoring goals. This raft of podcasts run by Goalhanger are now among the most popular in the country and all the parties involved have benefited significantly as a result of that.
Gary Lineker's net worth
The former Tottenham striker has had a very successful career both on and off the field, as he is the highest paid BBC presenter. Indeed, his contract with the BBC over the last 25 years have earned him a staggering net worth. His football career only makes up for a small portion of that fortune, as he went on to become a household name thanks to his expertise, which has been sought out by several broadcasters over the years.
According to the BBC's 2023/24 financial reports, the presenter is believed to be raking in £1.35 million every year. His new deal with the broadcaster is rumoured to earn him £1 million every year, as he is getting ready to leave Match of the Day and focus on the FA Cup and the 2026 World Cup.
