Graham Norton reveals details about private wedding with husband Jonathan McLeod

Graham Norton is notorious for getting celebs like Emma Watson or Tom Hanks to share their most embarrassing and private stories on his weekly show. However, when it comes to his own personal life, Norton has always remained very private.

This recently changed. In an interview given to The Guardian about his new show, Queen of the Universe, the TV host finally shares details about his relationship.

Norton and filmmaker Jonathan McLeod got married in July 2022 in what the Daily Mail refers to as a ‘glamorous Irish wedding.’ Norton has previously explained that the reason behind their Irish wedding was his own elderly mother who he didn’t want to travel to London.

In recent years and now in his Guardian interview, the comedian shows his kind character and dares to talk about many difficult topics. One that keeps making an appearance is his age as Norton turned 60 this year.

In the piece, he explains that he enjoys starting things later in life as ‘there’s more road than we think’. This outlook on life, he has applied to his writing and… well, marriage.

In previous interviews Graham Norton had already shared his excitement over his private wedding and relationship. He said:

When I was growing up, the idea of getting married or having kids, they weren’t on the table. It was lovely to get married. My mother was there, Jonathan’s mother was there. It’s a proper tradition.

He also gushed over how ‘extraordinary’ it was to meet his now husband and how he ‘got emotional’ during the ceremony.

What makes Norton’s new comments on his relationship interesting and notable is how personal they are. For once he chooses to share a very intimate detail that only guests of the wedding had access to.

In the the cutest and yet cheekiest way he says:

I had a joke in my speech: the vows are much more manageable. ‘Till death do us part’ seems more achievable at our age. If you get married at 23, that’s a big ask. We only have to put up with each other for a couple of decades. And then I’ll be out of here.

Who is Graham Norton’s husband, Jonathan McLeod?

Jonathan McLeod is a Scottish filmmaker known for his 2022 documentary My Old School which stars Alan Cumming. The film focuses on the 'Brandon Lee' scandal. In 1995, a former student joined a school pretending to be sixteen when he really was thirty.

His work is well received, going around known festivals like Sundance Film Festival.

McLeod and Norton had been together for 6 years before getting married.

It has been reported that the two are happily married with Norton saying:

It's good so far, it would be awful if it wasn't at this stage, just a few months in, I'd like to think that even I could manage a few months.
