The actress shared photos of the rubble on her social media, as well as a message of thanks dedicated to the people who helped her during this ordeal.

'I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house.'

Telling it like it is, Ellen Pompeo's co-star sets the scene for the evening that turned into a dramatic night.

A couple of months ago my house burned down. While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub. When I looked down the hallway a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.

In the same post, the actress wrote:

One thing about fires: they happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house and we escaped with less than shoes on our feet.

While Caterina Scorsone's family escaped without injury, their dog and three cats did not.

We unfortunately lost all four of our pets. We are still grieving, but we are fortunate to have been able to love them.

Caterina Scorsone thanks her Grey's family

In addition to telling her story, Caterina Scorsone wanted to send a 'thank you' note to her community.

This is a love letter to the incredible people that showed up and the incredible ways that they did. Thank you to the firefighters and the investigators (thank you Trey!) Thank you to my neighbor who answered our frantic knocks at her door. Thank you to the parents at my kids’ school who sent toys and books.

Thanks were also given to Grey's Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes and ABC Group, the show's broadcasters, who sent her family clothes and supplies to make things more bearable.

To conclude, the actress wanted to remind her fans of the only thing that matters in the end, which she describes as the 'community'. No doubt that this terrible fire has put things in perspective for the one who plays an outstanding neurosurgeon on the beloved TV show.
