The 72-year-old musician broke down in tears in front of his fans. Several concertgoers shared the footage of the concert on social media where we can see Elton John hoarsely apologizing to the crowd before getting up from his piano and making apologetic gestures to the audience. He was then escorted from the stage, while he received a standing ovation.
According to sources, the singer was seen by his doctors five minutes before going on stage, who warned him that he might lose his voice, but he decided not to cancel and perform anyway. During the concert, Elton revealed to his audience:'My voice has completely gone, I’m so sorry.'
The Rocketman shared his apologizes on Instagram later:
'I want to thank everyone who attended tonight's gig in Auckland," he wrote. "I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible. I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I'm disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had. Thank-you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight's performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton.'
