Helen Mirren’s career as an actress started when she was 22 and appeared in her first film, The Age of Consent in 1969. Helen Mirren is now an Oscar winner and so is her husband Taylor Hackford. Helen and Taylor’s first encounter isn’t one of fairytales and in fact, was not very pleasant for Helen.
However, despite the bad first impression, the couple has now been married for almost 30 years and dated for 10 before getting married.
Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford’s first meeting
As reported by Us Magazine, Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford met in 1985, Hackford was working on the film White Nights. However, Mirren did not appreciate the fact that Hackford had kept her waiting for an audition.
Speaking about their first encounter, Hackford told AARP The Magazine in September 2006:
It was a strange way to meet Helen, because she is a lovely person. But she didn’t hold back her fury.
Despite their bad first encounter, Helen was touched by the way Taylor treated his children, she told AARP The Magazine:
I have to say that the thing I loved most about Taylor was his absolute, total commitment to his children.
It seems as though a bad first encounter doesn’t mean you haven’t found your person as the couple went on to have a committed relationship, even to this day. The couple got married on December 31 1997 in Scotland.
Who is Taylor Hackford?
Taylor Hackford was born on December 31, 1944, in Santa Barbara, California, United States, where he grew up. Hackford went on to become an award-winning director, his work includes An Officer and a Gentleman(1982), All Odds (1984), Blood In, Blood Out (1993), Dolores Claiborne (1995) and Ray (2004).
Taylor Hackford won his very first Academy Award in 1979 for the film Teenage Father.
Before his relationship with Helen Mirren, Taylor Hackford was married twice before. His first marriage was to Georgie Lowres, with whom he shares a son, Rio Hackford. Taylor and Georgie were married from 1970 to 1975.
He then married Lynne Littman in 1977 and the two share a son, Alexander Hackford. Taylor and Lynne divorced in 1987.
