Ian Hislop is one of the most recognisable figures in the British media. At 64, he is the long-serving editor of Private Eye, a renowned satirical magazine that has been exposing political and corporate misdemeanours since 1986. He is equally famous for his role as a regular panellist on the BBC’s much-loved comedy quiz show, Have I Got News For You, where his quick humour has entertained audiences for decades.

However, like for many other stars, 2024 has been a turbulent year for the TV personality. Recently, Hislop was seen with a bandage wrapped around his head after an unfortunate encounter with an electric bike. This incident comes just weeks after another unexpected event in October.
Ian Hislop spotted with a bandage across his head
Hislop’s recent public appearance raised concerns when he was seen with a prominent bandage around his head. Reports reveal that the injury occurred after an electric bike collided with the BBC star.
Hislop’s evening took an unexpected turn when he was hit by an electric bike while crossing the road in London. The accident happened on a Wednesday afternoon as the Private Eye editor was walking in the capital. A fast-moving electric bike collided with the BBC star, leaving him to require urgent medical treatment.
A spokesperson for Private Eye confirmed the accident, stating:
[Ian] was hit by an electric bike whilst crossing the road yesterday afternoon.
Despite his collision, he is understood to be doing well after receiving medical attention as he was spotted out in London with his wife, Victoria, shortly after the incident. Hislop was seen sporting a white bandage across the back of his head while attending an event. He was dressed in a sharp black tuxedo and bow tie, but the bandage was still hard to miss.
Ian Hislop’s October Taxi mishap
The electric bike incident comes weeks after his taxi mishap this year. Back in October, the Private Eye editor found himself at the centre of a shocking episode involving a black taxi and alleged gunshots in London.
Hislop was travelling in the back of a cab in Soho when the driver reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot. The rear window of the taxi was shattered, leading the driver to believe a bullet had struck the vehicle. The police were called to investigate, and roads around Dean Street were briefly closed as officers combed the scene for evidence. A MET spokesperson said:
Police were called at 10.10 am on Tuesday, 1 October to a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster.
The driver of a London black taxi reported he was stationary in traffic when a shot was fired towards his vehicle, striking the window. There were no injuries. An investigation has been launched.
The incident sparked widespread concern and many started speculating potential motives behind it. However, further investigation suggested that the damage might have been caused by a mechanical fault rather than a firearm discharge, reports The Guardian.
