Speaking in a Live Q&A with her 1.8 million Instagram followers, the actor who played Margaret Thatcher in The Crown said she had become ‘so lazy’ to bother wearing a bra.
Explaining her decision to her online audience from her Atlanta home, she said;
I don’t wear a bra anymore. I can’t wear a bra. I can’t. I’m sorry, there’s no... I don’t care if I reach my belly button... my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra anymore. It’s just too f***ing uncomfortable.
Praiseworthy decision
Anderson’s announcement has generated a wave of praise on social media especially on Twitter with the clip in which she made the declaration garnering more than 200,000 views. Many women tweeted their support and admiration for the actor.
One commented,
LET THEM STARE. You literally create souls… don’t ever let someone have that much power over you.
Another said,
I agree—haven’t worn one since I was 12, soooo uncomfortable! Baggy shirts maybe, bras hard no!
One woman wished she had seen this video earlier when she couldn’t use her right hand and ‘getting a bra on was torture’
But not everyone commenting on the clip felt as confident as the actor. Some said they couldn’t try leaving the house without a bra because of the sheer size of their breasts.
One woman tweeted,
I am a 44 DDD senior. If I tried to walk around with a bra, I’d have two black eyes.
And here is another woman with similar concerns,
God, she’s so lucky she can do that. I can’t get away with it with these bazoombas.
The Free The Nipple campaign has been gaining traction on social media for some years but liberation from bras reached new heights during lockdown when many women working from home prioritised comfort when it came to their clothing choices.
