Fans react to video of Jackie Chan and his daughter
In the original tweet the user claims that the video is of ‘Jackie Chan and his daughter.’ An article from Hindustan Times is also titled this way.
The wording of both the tweet and the title make it seem like the video is a real touching moment captured between father and daughter. But this isn’t true.
Indeed, if you go beyond the title of the article, you will soon find out that this is not Jackie Chan’s real daughter but his ‘on-screen daughter’, Liu Haocun. The scene is an extract from Ride On Jackie Chan’s latest film.
While this has been cleared up, the confusion has reached Twitter. In the comments of the original tweet, fans are massively swooning over the moment. Users say:
This had no business making me cry lol. Dude is an absolute legend and gave us so many childhood memories without any wicked agendas attached
As a dad, this melts my heart. The things we do for a career, the pain and suffering….it’s all for them. It always all for them.
Jackie Chan’s real daughter
However, since the tweet has been published, liked, commented and shared by so many people, a community note has been added to it. The truth it revealed doesn’t place Jackie Chan in the best light.
People have brought to light and broadcasted Jackie Chan’s relationship with his real daughter is nothing like the one that is portrayed in the video.
The information that this tweet gives has been spoken about in multiple articles and several publications throughout the years have been writing about what happened to Chan’s daughter. South China Morning Post, Hindustan Times, The Economic Times... all have pointed out that Chan disowned his real daughter leading her to live in precarious conditions.
As Newsweek reports,
multiple sources suggest Chan’s daughter, Etta Ng Chok-Lam, who was born out of wedlock is now living in poverty in Canada with her wife.
They continue saying that ‘unconfirmed reports have suggested Chan's daughter was homeless in Hong Kong, with Chok-Lam accusing her parents of homophobia’
Twitter lashed onto this aspect with hundreds of disillusioned fans tweeting.

But Jack Chan’s strange relationship with his children doesn’t stop with this daughter.
In an interview with NewsAsia in 2011, Jackie Chan reveals that he will not be leaving his 400$ million to his only son when he dies.
He said:
If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money
Chan also wrote about this in his own autobiographyNever Grow Up in which he reports something he said to his son:
You have me as a dad, but other people don’t. When you get to sit in first class, because of your own hard work, then that’s success.
