In his caption the comedian confesses that he is ‘putting (his) American audience to the test’ of what he says are his ‘darkest jokes’. The clip has now, 25 September, gathered over 4,000 comments of people criticising the comedian.
But apart from his comedy, Carr is mostly known for his presenting of shows such as 8 out of 10 Cats or The Big Fat Quiz. His long-lasting career has allowed him to become one very rich presenter.
Jimmy Carr’s Netflix scandal
This special is not new. Indeed, it was released onto the streaming platform in 2021. However, it has resurfaced after the presenter shared a clip of it on X.
In the clip, Carr starts with a bit about how his show is going to be controversial. Indeed, he says:
What I’m saying onstage tonight is barely acceptable now. In ten years’ time, f*****g forget about it.
He then continues to make a joke about how future generations won’t know what a joke is. To carry his point across, Carr chooses to make light of the attempt of younger generations to be more accepting and caring when it comes to gender identity.
This ‘joke’ is one of the reasons why Carr is getting backlash. Comments on X read:
Wow, a non-binary joke. No one has ever done one of those before. Truly groundbreaking. So brave.
Waiting for the anti Semitic jokes, cuz y'all are usually not far off from making them after the LGBTQ jokes.
Moreover, people have commented on the fact that his jokes are simply unfunny.
