What is Jessica Ditzel? Joe Rogan’s wife who maintains a low profile
Despite being married to one of the most famous podcasters in the world, Jessica Ditzel maintains a low profile. The couple has been together for over two decades and officially tied the knot in 2009. Ditzel, a former cocktail waitress, caught Rogan’s eye early on in 2001, and the two began dating.
Despite being together since the early 2000s, the two avoided marriage for as long as possible as Rogan had always been against marriage. However, after welcoming their first daughter in 2008, Joe confessed he ‘had to’ marry Jessica. Rogan told the Palm Beach Post in July 2009:
I had to. Not really had to, but you know, she made a baby. [It’s] like, ‘God, all right, I’ll sign a silly legal contract.’ What she did was way more of a commitment.
In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Rogan also spoke candidly about his marriage, saying:
She lets me do whatever I do. That’s how we get along well. She doesn’t f--- with me.
When asked about signing a prenup, he admitted:
A prenup? Of course. I’m ridiculous and dumb, but I’m not stupid.
As per Nicki Swift, Ditzel has an impressive background, holding a degree in molecular biology from the University of Arizona, as well as a bachelor’s degree in the arts from California State University. She has also dabbled in modelling.
Though she rarely makes public appearances, Rogan has occasionally shared insights about her personality. Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast in 2022, he described her as ‘really nice’ and ‘always smiling.’ He added:
You wanna be with someone who’s like genuinely kind. That’s one of the things that I really love about my wife. She is a dedicated disciplined person. She is also really nice. That’s one of the things I like the most about her.
The couple lived in California for many years before relocating to Austin, Texas, in 2020. Their current home is a lavish $14 million estate on Lake Austin.
Joe Rogan’s kids
Rogan and Ditzel share three daughters, and despite his public persona, he is deeply committed to keeping his family life private.
Their eldest daughter, Kayja Rose, was born in 1996 and is actually Rogan’s adopted child. Kayja is the daughter of Ditzel from a previous relationship with the late musician Kevin Conner. Rogan officially adopted Kayja after marrying Ditzel in 2009. She been pursuing a career in music, released an R&B EP in 2017.
Speaking about his relationship with Kayja, Rogan shared on The Rosie Show in 2012:
She's an awesome kid. She's not just a daughter, she's my friend.
Adding:
I've worked really hard on making sure we talk to each other as openly as possible, even about boys, weird stuff she feels uncomfortable talking about, it's really important that I have conversations with her where she never feels like she's out of the loop.
Rogan and Ditzel welcomed their first daughter together, Lola, in 2008, followed by their youngest, Rosy, in 2010. Fatherhood changed Rogan’s perspective on life significantly. In an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he reflected:
I think the universe did me a solid by giving me only daughters.
He has admitted to struggling with time away from his family, saying in a previous interview:
I don't like being gone for three days, like three days f*cks up my feelings.
Does Joe Rogan discuss conspiracy theories at home?
Rogan’s podcast is infamous for its deep dives into conspiracy theories, from aliens to government cover-ups. However, there is one theory he refuses to discuss with his family—the idea that the world is a computer simulation.
In a recent 2025 episode of The Joe Rogan Experiencefeaturing comedian Andrew Schultz, Rogan confessed that he is ‘kind of convinced’ that humans are living in a simulation. He explained:
There's something more to reality than what meets the eye, there's more to it than what you can put on a scale or what you can put a ruler to. There's more to this thing.
This thing's made out of like, some very bizarre energy that's attached to consciousness, that's what I think.
However, when Schultz asked if Rogan discusses these ideas at home, he responded:
No, that’s too weird to talk to kids about.
He also admitted that his wife, Jessica, is not interested in such theories, saying:
She would go, “What?” You know my wife, she’d be like, “What the f**k are you talking about?”
Despite this, Rogan clarified that he and his wife do have deeper conversations when she initiates them. He said:
If she wants to talk about something like that, she'll bring it up. Like if she wants to talk about something heavy, it's not like I wouldn't talk about something heavy with her.
However, for the most part, their household discussions revolve around everyday life, parenting, and their favourite TV shows.
