Kate Garraway’s health struggle as she took care of Derek Draper
In a new documentary Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story, the TV presenter gave an insight into the last few months of Derek’s life. What comes as a surprise is that while Kate was taking care of Derek, she was hospitalised herself after experiencing ‘pains in her chest.’
The documentary’s producer Claire told the cameras that Kate's ‘heart scare thing’ worried her, reports The Sun. She revealed:
Kate was on her way here, and she had pains in her chest and threw up over herself in the car.
The phone call was like, 'Kate is in hospital' so naturally your mind goes, 'Kate is in hospital with Derek'. 'No, no, no, Kate is in hospital'. Oh my god, what has gone wrong here?
Claire remarked that it was at this particular moment she realised that even ‘the woman who seems to go on forever can't'.’ Kate was forced to keep working to earn money for Derek's enormous care bill which made her come under a debt of £800,000.
Kate Garraway’s regret after husband’s death
Despite her own health struggles and debt, Kate took care of her husband exceptionally well. She did everything possible including stepping away temporarily from work to take care of Derek. However, the GMB presenter revealed in the documentary that she has ‘one regret’ after his death, confirms The Sun.
Speaking to the producer Kate said:
I think if I had any regrets, it's every single minute that I didn't spend holding his hand because I had to go and write an email, go and make a phone call.
The loving wife wants Derek’s legacy to be the fight that he attempted to win against the system.
