Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson welcomed their second child in July of 2022. Around the same time, the relationship between the reality star and ex-NBA player was not on the best terms as Tristan had a string of infidelities and even fathered another child with mistress Maralee Nichols in December of 2021.

When it came to naming the baby, Khloe was still hesitant to choose a final name so she listed her son’s name as ‘Baby Kardashian’ on his birth certificate. Until the name was officially changed recently with a decree from a Los Angeles Judge.
What name did Khloe Kardashian choose for her son?
According to public records acquired by People Magazine, the official name of the child is Tatum Thompson.
In the latest season of The Kardashians, she opened up about welcoming Tatum into the family via surrogate and admitted to feeling less of a bond with her son compared to her daughter True who she had naturally. She said:
With True, it took me a couple of days to be like, okay, this is my daughter.
With him, it’s taken me months. I love him and I love kids but, I still don’t have that complete bond
I’m like, why isn’t it the same? But I know it will be and I know, like, I don’t treat him differently. I just question myself sometimes.
Why did she give her son his father’s surname?
According to People, 'Per California law, new parents can pick whether they'd like their child to have the father's last name, the mother's last name or a combination of both, with whatever the parent chooses being permanent unless a court order dictates otherwise.’
Since their eldest daughter carries her father’s surname, it is a reasonable assumption that Khloe didn’t want to create too many differences between her children, choosing the same last name for Tatum and True makes things simpler for both her children.
She continues to co-parent with Tristan even though she has not forgotten what he has done.
In the recent season of her reality show The Kardashians, Khloe addressed her ex’s infidelity stating:
Yeah, I forgive Tristan, doesn’t mean I forget what he’s done. But I forgive Tristan for me. Cause I gotta let that shit go, I need to for myself. I can’t move on with my life if I’m holding on to this bullshit.
Furthermore, Khloe has made it quite clear that the two, while civil with each other, will never reconcile. She took to social media to express this once and for all for the fans who like to speculate on the possibility:
Stop pushing this narrative. It’s tiring, But I suppose you guys will continue the narrative you want regardless of what I say so what’s the point. It’s exhausting but I learned people will only understand to the level of their own perception
