Kristi Noem’s purse was stolen

As mentioned above, on April 20, 2025, Kristi Noem was out in Washington, D.C., celebrating Easter with her family. According to Fox News, Noem’s purse was stolen while at a restaurant.

It hasn’t been disclosed which restaurant the crime occurred at, but it is believed to have taken place in downtown Washington.

Despite Noem’s Secret Service protection, the unidentified thief made off with Noem’s driving licence, medication, house keys, passport, Department of Homeland Security badge, makeup bag, blank cheques and roughly $3,000 in cash.

The Homeland Security Secretary confirmed the theft at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Moreover, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin gave some insight into the situation. Per Daily Mail, McLaughlin explained that Noem had made the large cash withdrawal to ‘treat her family’.

Her entire family was in town, including her children and grandchildren – she was using the withdrawal (of cash) to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts.

As of writing this article, the Secret Service has ‘launched a probe into the robbery’, per CNN, and the incident is ‘unresolved’.

President Donald Trump’s response to the crime

Following the crime, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to express his disdain and anger over the current crime rates in Washington, D.C. In his post, Trump puts pressure on the city’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, claiming she needs to increase police presence.

The President also urged Democratic Mayor Bowser to ‘clean up our once beautiful Capital City’. He goes on to add that if the mayor doesn’t take action, he ‘will have no choice but to do it myself’.

Per Fox News, he wrote:

We need our Great Police back on the street, with no excuses from the Mayor, or anyone else. The House should take up the D.C. funding "fix" that the Senate has passed, and get it done IMMEDIATELY.
We need to clean up our once beautiful Capital City, and make it beautiful again. We will be TOUGH ON CRIME, like never before. I will work with the Mayor on this and, if it does not happen, will have no choice but to do it myself. Washington, D.C., will be better, safer, and more beautiful than ever before!

One of President Trump’s solutions is to ‘strengthen pre-trial detention policies’ in order to ‘keep dangerous criminals off the streets’.
