Of course, the casting of the Islanders is key to the success of each series of Love Island. Speaking on 98 FM radio this week, Laura Whitmore praised the Love Island casting team as being ‘brilliant’ at getting a good ‘mixture of people’. She named fellow Irish gal Maura Higgins as her favourite former Islander. She said:

I always say one of the best contestants ever, from someone who was a fan who watched, was Maura Higgins. Just her personality. I mean she’s stunning, but it’s her personality. And counterbalancing her personality with other people’s personalities and I think that’s really important.
Maura Higgins - best ever Islander?
Maura appeared on Love Island series 5 back in the summer of 2019 and was memorable for making a play for Tommy Fury, coupling up with Curtis Pritchard after his split from Amy and exploding at Tom Walker when she heard him making a rude comment about her before they were due to spend a night in the Hideaway.
Since leaving the villa she’s split from Curtis and made a surprise recoupling with fellow 2019 Islander Chris Taylor. She’s now besties with former love rival Molly-Mae Hague and with over 3 million Instagram followers she’s certainly one of the most successful Love Islanders ever.
What makes a good Love Island cast?
We can’t all be Maura Higgins but which of her qualities are the most important to making her a great Islander? According to Laura:
You want the banter. You want a bit of fun and people to rile things up a bit.
So, if you’re hoping to catch the eye of the casting team for Love Island 2021, don’t be afraid to show your sense of humour, and that you’re not afraid of stepping on any toes!
