The timing couldn't be worse, but when has life ever been simple for the outspoken frontman? With accusations, fines, and personal disputes mounting, the stakes are higher than ever. What’s the real story behind the latest Liam Gallagher drama?
Liam Gallagher's legal battle
At the centre of his recent dispute is 12-year-old Gemma Gallagher, the daughter Liam fathered with American journalist Liza Ghorbani. Gemma is Liam’s love child with Liza and news of her birth surfaced in 2013. It played a key role in the collapse of Gallagher’s marriage to Nicole Appleton.
The birth also started a long-running legal battle over child support. Now, more than a decade later, Liza has reignited the dispute, demanding an increase in payments. The 52-year-old rockstar is due to appear in a New York family court on April 16 after being sued by Liza, with whom he had a brief affair in 2010. If he fails to attend, which has been the case before, he risks a hefty £4,000 fine, according to The Sun.
Liza, 51, has reportedly filed for a 'silly amount' of child support, citing Gallagher’s lucrative Oasis reunion tour, which is expected to earn him £50 million. According to The Daily Mail, an insider claims:
It's clear that Liza and her legal team are hoping to cash in on Liam's big tour earnings.
He's always been generous with his child maintenance, but now she's asking for even more money. It's causing Liam unnecessary stress as he prepares for the tour.
The latest claim, filed in the New York Supreme Court, follows a previous confidential settlement reached in 2015. At that time, Liza was receiving £3,000 a month in child support but she is now seeking a higher sum.
Liam has publicly expressed his frustration, branding Liza a 'gold-digger' and claiming she already receives £300,000 a year. Liam posted on X:
And it’s 300 grand a year not 36 grand a year get your SUMS right LG x.
Liza, however, has hit back at the 'misinformation' circulating about the case.
The history between Liam Gallagher and Liza Ghorbani
Liam Gallagher met Liza Ghorbani in 2010 when she interviewed him for The New York Times. What began as a professional encounter eventually turned into a brief affair that took place in 2011 and 2012, despite Liam being married to Nicole Appleton at the time.
Their daughter, Gemma, was born in 2013, and shortly after, Liza sued Liam for £2 million in child support. According to The Independent, reports suggest that their rumoured relationship briefly continued for three months after Gemma’s birth, but ultimately ended when Liza initiated legal action against Liam.
At the time, it was claimed that Liza was not seeking millions but rather 'simply seeking child support.' Despite reaching a confidential settlement in 2015, the dispute over payments has resurfaced, with Liza now pushing for a higher amount.
Liam has never met Gemma, though he has publicly stated he would support her if needed. An insider added:
It's added pressure on Liam, who's never even met Gemma. This latest case is just one of the many issues he's had to deal with when it comes to his personal life.
His reluctance to be involved in her life contrasts with his relationship with his other children.
Liam Gallagher's children: Who they are and what they do?
Liam has four children from different relationships. While some have embraced the spotlight, following in their father’s footsteps in music and fashion, others have led more private lives. Despite their different paths, they are all connected by their famous surname and the legacy that comes with it. Here’s a look at who they are and what they do:
Molly Moorish-Gallagher
Molly, 26, is the eldest of Liam’s children. Born from his relationship with singer Lisa Moorish, she grew up largely out of the public eye. She was 20 when she first met her father, but since then, they have built a relationship. The Standard reports that Molly is a sociology graduate from Goldsmiths University and actively supports charitable causes, including Centrepoint and Crohn’s and Colitis UK. She was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 13 and has since become an advocate for raising awareness about the condition. She is currently dating Liverpool footballer Nathaniel Phillips, which has been an interesting dynamic given her father's unwavering support for Manchester City.
Lennon Gallagher
Lennon, 25, is Liam’s son with actress Patsy Kensit. Named after John Lennon, he has made a name for himself in both fashion and music. Reportedly, he has walked the runway for high-end brands like Burberry and Yves Saint Laurent, while also fronting his own punk band, Automotion. Lennon’s presence in the industry reflects the unmistakable Gallagher influence, though he is carving out his own unique space.
Gene Gallagher
Gene, 23, is the youngest of Liam’s sons, born to Nicole Appleton. Like his father and older brother, he has ventured into music and is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the band Villanelle. According to The Standard, he has occasionally found himself in trouble, notably being involved in an altercation at a Tesco Express. Despite his rebellious streak, he insists that his position in music is down to his talent rather than his famous surname.
Apart from these three, Gemma, 12, is Liam’s fourth child. Unlike her half-siblings, she has not had any contact with her father. Details about her life are scarce, as her mother has kept her largely away from media attention.
