While many are mourning the loss of One Direction's Liam Payne, the police are still investigating the singer's tragic death. Indeed, three people were charged on 7 November 2024 in connection to the star's passing, on the same day as his body was finally returned to his father, Geoff Payne.

On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, Argentinian authorities revealed they put another two people under investigation. Four out of the five people the police are looking into appear to be workers at the hotel where Liam Payne was staying in Buenos Aires. Nearly two months after Liam Payne's tragic incident, new information has come to light regarding his neuropsychiatrist. Find out more below.

Liam Payne's neuropsychiatrist allegedly refused to treat him

In addition to the four workers at the hotel where Liam Payne fell to his death, one of his friends is also under investigation. Roger Nores, the singer's alleged manager, is reportedly accused of abandoning his friend while he was in danger. However, he has firmly denied these claims. Roger Nores' name is popping up once again in the investigation, as Liam Payne's neuropsychiatrist reportedly sent him a note explaining why she could not continue treating the singer as her patient.

According to new reports, the singer's mental health expert allegedly told Roger Nores that she feared for her patient's life as mixing alcohol and antidepressants usually leads to devastating consequences. The note appeared when Liam's father, Geoff Payne, emailed the Argentinian police about it. A source told The Sun that the singer wanted to heal, and that he had his entire entourage's support. They said:

Family and management did everything they could, Liam was loved, adored and incredibly talented. He confronted his issues head-on, hoping to get back on track.

Why you should never mix alcohol and antidepressants

Liam Payne's autopsy report shows he had traces of alcohol and prescription antidepressants in his system at the time of his death. Mixing alcohol and prescription drugs is extremely dangerous. According to the NHS, alcohol is a 'depressant' which could trigger your mental health issues, especially if you are taking antidepressants. According to the Mayo Clinic, side effects of mixing alcohol and antidepressants can include:

  • Depression and/or anxiety: Alcohol makes the symptoms of depression and anxiety worse in the long run.
  • High blood pressure: When mixed with prescription drugs, alcohol can spike up your blood pressure, which can eventually cause strokes or heart problems.
  • Loss of control: The mix can forbid you from thinking clearly or staying alert, which makes you more vulnerable, especially in a public space.
  • Sleepiness: Mixing alcohol and antidepressants can make you more sleepy. You should never drive after drinking alcohol, but it is even more dangerous if you are also taking prescription drugs. Otherwise, you might fall asleep at the wheel.

If you are feeling depressed, doctors recommend you do not drink at all, as you may be more susceptible to misusing alcohol, which can eventually lead to addiction. Please reach out to your GP or to a mental health professional.
