Believe it or not, the two pop stars weren’t always at each other’s throats. There was a time when they actually enjoyed a good friendship. But all good things must come to an end it seems. They are both known to have a ‘diva’ attitude that they take wherever they go, and that’s bound to clash. And thus began a rumored bitter feud that started at the dawn of the 21st century. Here’s why.
The ‘Bond’ song
Madonna became a ‘Bond girl’ when she sang the theme track for 2002’s hit film Die Another Day. And as per Good Housekeeping, Elton John labelled the track as ‘the worst Bond tune of all time’. This obviously didn’t sit well with the ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ singer, and thus began their rumored infamous feud.
The lip-sync allegation
Elton John continued to take the bitterness to a different level. At the 2004 Q Awards, the 'Candle In The Wind' singer blamed Madonna for lip-syncing publicly at a live show.
Adding fuel to the fire
According to Smooth Radio, Elton John even humiliated Madonna by calling her a ‘miserable cow’ because she refused to perform at his bachelor party. And this feud escalated again when Madonna won the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Elton, who was also a nominee under the same category, was confident in taking the trophy home. And Madonna’s victory got him more upset with her than ever. Madonna said the following:
He has been known to get mad at me, he's brilliant, and I adore him, so he'll win another award. I don't feel bad.
