The latest player to face public criticism is the 26-year-old Marcus Rashford. Man United’s website states that Rashford was ‘thrust into the senior spotlight in February 2016 – with spectacular results – and has not looked back since’. Indeed, the star scored a whopping 30 goals last season. But this season, his performance has plummeted and his private life is causing concern. Here’s everything you need to know about the player’s hectic life.
Rashford’s partying
Footballers earn a lot, and they often enjoy splashing their cash. Rashford is no exception, as he loves a night out and a ride on a private jet. However, his behaviour of late has caused concern amongst fellow players and managers who suspect that he is taking the partying lifestyle a little too far.
The most recent drama to hit the headlines involves Rashford and a mystery brunette with whom he was staying at a five-star hotel room in Northern Ireland. The footballer went on a tequila bender that lasted 12 hours and ended up having a very loud fight with his alleged girlfriend that ended up waking the neighbouring guests.
The night started with dinner and drinks then progressed, as these things often do, to a night out. The Premier League star and his entourage headed out clubbing, and Rashford reportedly asked if anywhere would stay open past 3AM if he paid them enough money. It seems this plan didn’t come to fruition as guests reported that sometime past 2AM, Rashford returned to the hotel room that he was sharing with his French lover.
3AM fight with secret French lover
A source from the hotel explained that the star’s visit had already drawn attention as he had been paying for everything with cash that he carried around in a duffel bag. They said that ‘all of a sudden there was a lot of noise and raised voices’ when the French woman apparently ‘started accusing him of kissing another woman’ at the nightclub earlier in the evening. In response, Rashford’s security chucked her out of the room and Rashford himself then decided to throw all of her ‘stuff out into the corridor - and closed the door on her’. The woman, in tears, marched to the hotel reception and demanded a separate room.
Rashford’s ex Lucia Loi is thriving
Rashford had been with his long-term girlfriend Lucia Loi since the pair were 16, but after getting engaged in May 2022, the couple eventually split in June last year. Many have attributed Rashford’s aparent spiral to the breakup, calling Lucia his ‘lucky charm’. Rashford called in sick for a training session following his Northern Ireland bender, and while Man United has reached out to offer Rashford counselling to help him deal with his issues, Lucia is thriving.
Having secured a first-class honours degree in advertising and management, and gained experience under companies such as Pretty Little Thing, the 26-year-old has now decided to launch her own fashion brand. She officially opened Redi, a clothing company, in November 2023. She shared the news along with a snap of a handwritten letter to ‘girls in their 20’s’ on how to make the most of the ups and downs of these years.
The former couple were thought to have rekindled things around the same time as this launch, but recent events would suggest otherwise. A source previously told The Sun that there’s ‘nothing complicated’ in their breakup and that they ‘remain very close friends’.
