While fans of One Direction are navigating their grief after the tragic passing of Liam Payne, it seems another fanbase is going through a difficult time as well. Indeed, fans of The Wanted are still getting over the untimely death of Tom Parker, after an 18-month battle against an aggressive brain tumour. However, that is sadly not all.
Max George, another member of the band, has recently been rushed to hospital. The singer recently gave his fans some news, and they are not as reassuring as they expected.
Max George rushed to hospital over heart issues
On 12 December 2024, The Wanted's notorious singer Max George posted an emotional message to his fans on his own Instagram account. The 36-year-old shared a photograph of himself, lying in a hospital bed. While the situation is definitely difficult for him and his family, he remains positive, as he can be seen with his thumb up, and with a smile on his face. In the caption, Max George writes about how doctors discovered something wrong with his heart after he felt unwell:
Hey everyone, Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.
The singer still has to undergo more tests and probably a surgery to get back on his feet. Sadly, he also explained he will have to spend Christmas at the hospital, although he can count on the unconditional love and support of his partner, EastEnders' actress Maisie Smith, and their families.
It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned! But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.
The singer has already suffered other health struggles
Max George has already faced several health struggles over the years. Indeed, he battled depression, and alcohol abuse. George revealed he stopped drinking after Tom Parker's traumatic death, and he explained having used alcohol as a way to escape his anxiety.
He also suffered from intense depression ten years ago, after The Wanted parted ways for indefinite hiatus.
More recently, in March 2024, the singer had to cancel several performances due to 'personal reasons'. A month later, he posted a picture on his Instagram account showing a severely swollen eye. He went through several brain scans but doctors could not find the source of his ailments. He later discovered his physical symptoms were brought on by his mental health issues. Talking to the Private Parts podcast, he said:
I had a three-month period in my life where I couldn't leave my apartment without being sick. My head was spinning. I couldn't walk. So I ended up in hospital having scans on my brain and it was all down to being depressed.
