In his challenge to Piers live on Tuesday morning’s episode of Good Morning Britain, weather presenter Alex Beresford alluded to Piers’ former personal relationship with Meghan Markle—which led to Piers storming off the set. Later that day it was announced he had quit the breakfast show altogether.

What happened between Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle?
In an interview on Ireland’s The Late Late Show back in 2018, Piers claimed that he had had an online friendship with Meghan Markle before she was with Prince Harry. He said they went for a drink together in a pub the very night she met Harry for the first time—but accused her of ‘ghosting’ him afterwards.
He said:
We got on brilliantly and then I put her in a cab and it turned out to be a cab to a party where she met Prince Harry. And then the next night they had a solo dinner together, and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle.
He went on to say that he thought Meghan was ‘a slight social climber.’
Piers didn’t get an invite to the wedding
Piers—who did not get an invitation to Harry and Meghan’s wedding—then suggested that Meghan and another actor from Suits had ‘been told to ghost’ him. He also suggested that Harry might have warned Meghan off him. Prince Harry is famously not a fan of British tabloids—where Piers started his career.
Is this the real reason behind what many have called Piers’ ‘vendetta’ against Meghan Markle? It’s impossible to say for sure but even Piers himself said in May 2020 that he had ‘probably’ taken things too far in his comments about the Duchess of Sussex, admitting that ‘it’s probably not wise, if you’re a columnist, to make things too personal.’
