Donald Trump appoints three new 'special ambassadors' in Hollywood

On Thursday 16 January 2025, Donald Trump took to his own social network, called Truth Social, to share the big news, which left many observers flabbergasted. To everyone's surprise, the president-elect announced he was naming Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone, three of the biggest names in Hollywood (and coincidentally all men and vocal Trump supporters), as his 'eyes and ears' in Hollywood, which was mostly destroyed by the Palisades Fire, as well as the other four wildfires that took away the homes of thousands of people. Donald Trump wrote:

It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.

Donald Trump hopes his little team can change the future of Hollywood. In true Trump fashion, he continued:

They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood.

Mel Gibson had no idea about his new role

However excited he may be about the news, Donald Trump seems to have missed an important step. Indeed, Mel Gibson revealed in an interview with Variety, that he had no idea about his role until he read about it online, like everyone else. The controversial Hollywood star, who once said Vice President Kamala Harris had 'the IQ of a fence post', still welcomed his new appointment with open arms. He told Variety:

I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.

The Braveheart star, who also lost his $14.5 million Malibu mansion in the Pacific Palisades wildfire, concluded with a bit of humour. He said:

Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?

The three men appointed by Donald Trump to basically save Hollywood have all publicly endorsed him over the years. Sylvester Stallone attended one of Donald Trump's galas at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in November 2024. When he introduced the former president to the stage, he heavily hinted at a resemblance between Donald Trump and Founding Father George Washington, going so far as to call him a 'mythical character'. He told the audience:

We are in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology. Nobody in the world could’ve pulled off what he pulled off. So I’m in awe.

In 2019, Jon Voight, who happens to be Angelina Jolie's father, claimed Donald Trump was 'the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln'. As a generous thank-you, the former president awarded him with a National Medal of Arts, that same year.
