It has now been suggested that Melania is demanding she and Donald have separate bedrooms in the White House, just like during his previous presidency. Here’s what we know about the couple’s sleeping arrangements.

Melania and Donald Trump had separate rooms in the White House

As mentioned above, it has been said that during Donald Trump’s first term, he and his wife, Melania, didn’t share a room in the White House. A source told Radar Online that Trump stayed in the master suite, while Melania stayed in another room on the third floor.

It was no secret that Donald stayed in the White House master suite and Melania occupied a two-room suite on the third floor during their first-go round there.

When Donald Trump first entered the White House for his first presidency, Melania and their son Barron didn’t move in at the same time. According to Hello!, they didn’t move in until a year later.

It has been suggested that it was because Barron was finishing his high school education in Manhattan's Upper West Side, therefore Melania stayed with him. The two eventually moved into the historic building when Barron enrolled at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland.

Melania and Donald Trump to have separate rooms again?

As reported by Radar Online, Melania Trump has allegedly demanded to have a separate room from her husband in the White House once again for Donald’s second term.

The same source explained that Melania knew her husband needed support during his campaign and allegedly used the opportunity for her benefit. The source told Radar Online:

Melania knew she had Donald over a barrel going into the 2024 campaign.
She knew he needed her support and she made the most of the moment.

Speaking about the sleeping arrangements, the source said it’ll likely be the same as Trump’s first presidency:

They'll now basically go back to something along those very same lines — if not in the very same rooms.

Nonetheless, while it is rather unconventional, Donald and Melania are not the first couple in the White House to not share a room. Indeed, as per People, Patricia and Richard Nixon didn’t share a room in the early 1970s. Moreover, President John F. Kennedy also didn’t share a room with his wife, Jacqueline.

Biographer Mary Jordan claims the couple don’t spend much time together despite often being in the same building. As per Hello!:

I don’t know any couple that spends as much time apart. They are often in the same building, but nowhere near each other. She rarely goes into the West Wing. She doesn’t like to golf. She has her own little spa. She likes to be isolated.
She is a loner. He is a loner. They’re perfectly happy to be separated.

Moreover, in 2023, it was claimed that Melania ‘quietly’ renegotiated her prenuptial agreement before Trump potentially served a second term in the White House. The former First Lady has allegedly asked for more financial security for herself and their son, Barron, who is currently studying in New York.
