Over the years a lot has been said about their marriage. For instance, a former employee of Melania previously opened up about the state of their marriage and claimed ‘it legitimised them both’. Apart from the state of their personal relationship, their financial arrangements have also been the talk of the town. Reportedly, Melania has renegotiated the terms of their prenup three times so far.
Melania Trump’s latest renegotiation of her prenup
In September 2023, Page Six revealed that Melania ‘quietly’ renegotiated her prenuptial agreement in advance of Trump potentially serving a second term in the White House. A source claimed that Melania found it essential to negotiate the terms not just because of Trump’s presidential bid but also his mounting legal challenges.
This renegotiation reportedly focused on securing additional financial provisions for Melania and their son, Barron. An insider told the publication:
Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new ‘postnup’ agreement between herself and Donald Trump. This is at least the third time Melania has renegotiated the terms of her marital agreement.
According to insiders, the renegotiation aimed to ensure financial security for Melania and their 17-year-old son, Barron, in light of Trump’s costly legal battles. The source said:
Melania is most concerned about maintaining and increasing a substantial trust for their son, Barron.
Donald has faced significant financial strains, including a $250 million civil fraud case and a $5 million defamation payout to E. Jean Carroll. Another source added:
I know that she wanted it to provide her with more money, and also — from what I understand — there’s a specific amount at minimum that Barron is supposed to obtain.
This agreement was necessary because of the current legal battles … [Donald] has suffered.
Reports suggest that Melania’s move was not motivated by any desire to end her marriage but rather by a strategic foresight to secure her position and that of her son.
Previous renegotiations of prenup
This is not the first time Melania and Trump are said to have redefined their martial agreement. The new First Lady made first notable renegotiation occurred in 2017, shortly after Donald assumed the presidency. At the time, Melania delayed moving into the White House under the pretext of ensuring a smooth transition for Barron’s schooling in New York.
However, The Guardian reported in 2020 that she allegedly used the delay as leverage to amend the terms of her prenup. The information came from a book by the Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan.
