Despite several rumours about the state of their marriage, the two have stayed together, they have been married since 2005 and share one son, Barron, who recently started university in New York.

In a recent interview, the former First Lady revealed that Donald had requested they have more children but that's not what Melania wanted.

Melania Trump didn’t want another child

On September 26, 2024, Melania Trump sat for an interview with Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends to promote her upcoming memoir, Melania. During the interview, the former model talked about parenthood and revealed that Donald wanted to have another child with Melania after their son, Barron was born in 2006.

However, Melania was against the idea and was ‘perfectly fine with one’. Moreover, she explains the reason she was only fine with one child was that both she and Donald were very busy people and she was ‘in charge of everything’.

Donald was encouraging [us] to have more. And I said, like, 'I'm completely fine with one because it's [a] very busy life.' I know how busy he is... and I'm in charge of everything. So that's why. It's just perfect.

Not only does Melania discuss her not wanting another child, but the host, Ainsley Earhardt, also brings up a photo of the former First Lady and her son Barron which features in her memoir, leading to her talking about the importance of working whilst having children.

Melania Trump talks about being a working mother

As mentioned above, the interview host talks about a photo of Melania in her memoir, where she is at her desk surrounded by her son’s books ‘all over the floor’ while Barron is sitting in a toy car.

Melania then explains that it was ‘important’ for her to have her son see her working from a young age. She told Ainsley it’s to show children ‘an example [of] how life is’ and that’s what she wanted to show Barron.

I think it's very important that we show our children that we are working too. To give them an example [of] how life is.

Adding:

That they see us, that we are productive, that we have ideas, that ideas come to life. And, that's how I was showing Barron.

Melania Trump opens up about being a blended family

As many know, Melania and Donald Trump have a large blended family. Indeed, the former President has three children from his late ex-wife, Ivana Trump, who died in 2022, and one child from his ex-wife Marla Maples.

During the interview, Melania gives advice to anyone who also has a blended family, saying that they have to ‘take [an] individual as they are’ and that you ‘cannot control anyone’. She goes on to explain that the only thing you can control is yourself and your actions.

You cannot control anyone. You could control only your own behavior, your own words. Everybody is in control of [their] own self. I'm not in control of my husband. I'm not in control of his children. I'm not even in control of my child. He's his own person.
