Meryl Streep and Martin Short dating rumours are finally addressed

During the 81st Golden Globes, Only Murders in the Building stars Meryl Streep and Martin Short could be seen sitting next to each other. They were both nominated for their performances in the third season of the acclaimed show. This appearance sent waves across social media as fans began to speculate whether the two stars were dating.

Reddit was the source of the rumours which began as the duo portrayed on-screen couple Oliver Putnam and Loretta Durkin. A thread on the show’s subreddit started a debate that slowly swept through the internet. The rumour also gained traction as it was confirmed that Meryl Streep had quietly separated from her husband of many years.

Her rep spoke to People magazine confirming this by stating:

Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.

Clearing up the Rumours

With the enormous amount of light the Golden Globes put on the two actors, it seemed as though there was credence to the insinuation. However, it looks like the attention reached Martin Short who quickly brought the rumour mill to a halt when his representation told the Messenger:

They are just very good friends, nothing more.

One could say that the pair’s acting is so believable that it somehow got their on-screen chemistry to cross over to the real world.
