The 67-year-old had his ‘rucksack, one litre of water and a biscuit, and had a hat and umbrella,’ reports The Independent. Little did he know, this would unfortunately become the last stroll of his life. Months after the tragic incident an inquest has revealed the details of what may have happened to the TV doctor.
Michael Mosley, inquest reveals new details
One of the most puzzling details about Dr Mosley’s death was why he chose to leave his mobile phone behind—a decision that left him unable to call for help.
According to the coroner's open conclusion, which was recorded on 20 December, the doctor ‘intentionally’ left his phone at the holiday home to avoid it getting wet during a ferry ride earlier that day.
The coroner’s report noted that after enjoying the morning at Pedi Beach with his wife, Clare Bailey, and friends, Dr Mosley decided to walk back to their accommodation. Despite being described as ‘energetic and cheerful’ when he set off, he tragically detoured onto a treacherous mountainous route in blistering 37°C heat.
Without his phone, rescue teams found it difficult to find him. However, his body was eventually discovered by journalists just 100 yards and a 90-second walk away from a restaurant and safety. The position of his body suggested he may have paused to rest before collapsing, reports The Sun.
The coroner ruled out suicide, homicide, and injury-related accidents, adding it ‘was most likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or non-identified pathological cause.’ They added the cause of his death was ‘unascertainable’ and ‘indeterminate.’
Michael Mosley leaves a legacy worth £1.7 Million
Recently, it was also revealed that Michael Mosley left behind a generous legacy for his family. According to The Sun, Dr Mosley left an estate worth £1.7 million entirely to his wife Clare. The sum included royalties from his bestselling books, savings, and property, ensuring financial security for the family he adored.
Court documents revealed that the diet expert had updated his will in 2014. In the update, he ensured that his assets would pass to their four children—Alexander, Jack, Daniel, and Katherine—if Clare predeceased him. Clare fondly described him as a 'wonderful, kind, and brilliant husband' who brought joy to everyone around him.
