We all know about Nigel Farage’s political adventures such as his 20-year campaign to remove the UK from the European Union, but how many of you know about his personal life? The former UKIP leader has been married twice; his second marriage is the most interesting and unusual.
Nigel Farage is married to Kirsten Mehr
As mentioned above, Nigel Farage has been married twice, his second wife is Kirsten Mehr. Kirsten is German and originally from Hamburg, as per The Sun. Farage and Mehr reportedly met in 1996 in Frankfurt.
Kirsten used to work as a government bond broker. Kirsten now lives in Kent, which she used to share with her husband, Nigel Farage. Nigel and Kirsten married in 1999 and the couple share two children together, Victoria, who was born in 2000 and Isabelle, who was born in 2005.
Farage and Mehr haven’t been living together since 2017, as reported by Mirror. Farage has denied having difficulties in his marriage but his wife shared a statement in 2017 confirming that the couple had been living separate lives for several years.
My husband and I have lived separate lives for some years and he moved out of the family home a while ago. This is a situation that suits everyone and is not news to any of the people involved.
Farage later admitted in an interview with Piers Morgan that he was a difficult man to live with. He told Piers:
Being married to me is very difficult. Even before I entered politics, it was tough and complicated. While I can handle the negative attention, it has affected those around me, and there is an unpleasant side to it.
Nigel Farage allegedly had a 12-year affair
According to Mirror, the former UKIP leader had a 12-year affair with Annabelle Fuller, a former speechwriter and trusted adviser to the party. Fuller claims she had a sexual relationship with Nigel Farage from 2004 to October 2016.
Rumours suggest that Farage had written Fuller a secret love letter declaring his affection to her with ‘heart and body’. Fuller revealed that the affair had caused her depression, self-harm and even suicide attempts.
Opening up about the 12-year-long affair, Annabelle explained that they kept the relationship a secret to not affect the chances of Brexit:
Nigel and I both knew we had to keep quiet to save Brexit. We are both liars and hypocrites but the reason I had to lie throughout the years was that I didn’t want UKIP or the cause we were fighting for to be damaged.
Annabelle also revealed that the two had sexual encounters in encounters in MEP offices in the European Parliament and that the last encounter was in 2016, as per Mirror. Fuller then went to therapy to deal with the turmoil and life-threatening actions on herself.
Despite Annabelle speaking up about the affair, Nigel Farage has refused to confirm or deny the allegation and still has not spoken about it.
