Relationships between siblings can be wonderful and supportive, but they can also be extremely difficult and rocky. Noel and Liam Gallagher's feud is one of the most famous that has piqued public interest, much like that of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Despite their huge success as a band, they allegedly could not stand each other anymore and decided to cut ties in 2009. Many are left wondering, what happened between the two of them for things to get this bad?

Well, according to Liam Gallagher, it all started when they were teenagers. Indeed, the brothers shared one bedroom in their Manchester family home, when Liam came home drunk one night, and started peeing on Noel's brand-new stereo. It is safe to say that things did not get better as the brothers rose to fame and started touring the world. In fact, during a concert in 1994, Liam reportedly hit his brother with a tambourine on stage, and insulted the audience while he was high on methamphetamines. In 2000, the brothers got into a violent physical fight, reportedly prompted by Liam's comments on his brother's daughter. About the incident, Noel said in 2005:

I’ve never forgiven him. He’s my brother, but he’s at arm’s length until he apologises for what he’s done.

Noel Gallagher, who is due to have a major surgery this year, eventually quit the band in 2009 after a gig in Paris, and he explained his reasons for leaving, citing his brother's 'verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family and friends… of too great a number to list'. He said:

People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.

Things got even nastier in the next few years, before Noel split from his wife in 2023, who absolutely did not get along with Liam. After dismissing the idea of a reunion for years, Noel allegedly reached out to his brother. He explained:

Liam won’t speak to me, he’s a coward. So he should get some of his people, his agent, to call my people and say, ‘Look, this is what we’re thinking.’ And then we’ll have a conversation about it.

Taking everyone by surprise, fifteen years after they cut all ties, Mancunian brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher announced they were getting the band back together, and they are going to perform a few concerts in 2025. Both brothers posted the announcement on their social media accounts on Tuesday 24 August, saying:

The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.

Fans are hoping the two won't look back in anger at their years of estrangement, and finally patch things up to pay tribute to a band that left its mark on generations.
