Paul O’Grady’s grandson’s sweet tribute to him
Paul’s daughter revealed that her son Abel has adopted Paul’s ringtone as his own. Meaning, that one of Paul’s favourite songs that he had set as his ringtone is adopted by Abel as well. Sharon said:
When dad used to take Abel out in the car, he'd play Trouble by Elvis.
Now Abel has that as his ringtone on his phone, and my dad used to have it on his phone.
When I hear Abel's phone ring, for a split second, I think my dad's gonna walk into the room and say, 'Who's that on the phone?'
Paul had been a long-time presenter on BBC Radio 2 and music played a significant role in his life. As such, The Mirror confirmed, that even during his private funeral service at St Rumwold's Church in Bonnington, Kent, music was a great deal. The playlist included Meditation from the opera Thais, which Paul chose as his favourite piece of music when he appeared on Desert Island Discs in 2003.
Speaking to host Julian for a pre-recorded Boom Radio tribute show, Sharon added:
I asked my children what memories they had of Paul, and Halo said the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse March as they used to dance to that in his bedroom.
My dad absolutely loved music and he's left me with a lot of great memories. I remember going to the press night of Cilla at the Liverpool Empire.
The Paul O'Grady The Musical Celebration show which will air from 12-2pm on 25 December, also includes tributes from fellow comedians Dawn French and Jo Brand and singer Michael Buble.
