Since then, the TV channel has struggled to find a replacement for the person who was one of their stars. These replacement issues of course involved This Morning but they also cover Dancing on Ice which Schofield and Willoughby usually host together.
Talking to The Sun, presenter Stephen Mulhern says that he’s in talks with ITV to take over Phillip Schofield's spot.
Stephen Mulhern on Dancing on Ice
Speaking to The Sun, Stephen Mulhern confirmed that he is indeed in talks to host Dancing on Ice. He said:
You know what, we are talking about Dancing On Ice, 100 percent, but nothing's been confirmed.
I'd be crazy not to do it.
However, because nothing has been signed, Mulhern is being cautious. He adds:
It’s that thing isn’t it…. I still know some of the team obviously, and Holly is a dream partner to work with.
I think there's a right time and a right place.
Hosting Dancing on Ice would not be much of a stretch for Mulhern who had already stepped in for Schofield when he had Covid. He described the experience as ‘an amazing night.’
At the moment, it is unsure who will host Dancing on Ice when it returns in January. Indeed, as much as Mulhern wants to do it, he hasn’t signed anything and Holly Willoughby hasn’t confirmed that she will be joining. At the moment, she is keeping a low profile after she had to leave This Morning when a plot to kidnap her was uncovered.
Stephen Mulhern, a choice that makes sense
Stephen Mulhern has been working as a presenter since the late 1990s. At first, Mulhern hosted children’s shows about magic. This included Finger Tips and Tricky TV.
Since the beginning of his career, Mulhern has been working with ITV. Not only that, Mulhern has worked with Holly Willoughby before. Between 2004 and 2006, they hosted Holly & Stephen's Saturday Showdown.
For a year, between 2006 and 2007, he even hosted a spin-off of Dancing on Ice on ITV2. He also had a segment on This Morning for two years.
While most of his work on ITV has been done on spin-offs Mulhern hints at the fact that ITV has been looking to give him something bigger. Many, Mulhern himself, assumed that this would be the reboot of Deal or No Deal which starts 20 November. But maybe, ITV meant Dancing on Ice… only time will tell.
