Ray Liotta: The Goodfellas actor's cause of death revealed a year later

Ray Liotta died on May 26, 2022, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Liotta was in the midst of filming his latest movie, Dangerous Waters. At the time of his death, he was engaged to Jacy Nittolo.

The pair began their relationship in early 2020. After 10 months of dating, Liotta announced he had proposed to Nittolo in December 2020 through an Instagram post:

I asked the love of my life to marry me, and thank God she said yes!!!

Sadly, before the pair could get married, Liotta died at the age of 67. According to documents obtained by TMZ, The Goodfellas actor’s cause of death has been revealed.

As said before, Liotta died in May 2022. According to reports, the actor died peacefully in his sleep. Liotta’s publicist, Jennifer Allen revealed that Ray died in his hotel room. At the time of his death, it was categorised as ‘natural and non-violent’.

Liotta’s death came as quite a shock since the actor was still relatively young. However, fellow actor Taron Egerton revealed he thought that Liotta looked ‘frail’ whilst they were filming Black Bird.

Egerton appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and recalled working with Ray:

Sometimes actors can be... we're a weird bunch, we do weird stuff, so I thought I'd leave him to it, give him his space, and across the room he sort of caught my eye and just stood up, walked towards me in a sort of frail way.

Ray Liotta’s cause of death revealed

Almost a year after his death, the cause has been revealed. According to TMZ, Liotta died of heart failure, respiratory insufficiency and pulmonary oedema, which is a build-up of fluid in the lungs.

The reports also state that Ray suffered from atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries. This causes a person’s arteries to narrow and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
